Article: need to balance microbes and fertilizer
It may be my background in conventional agriculture presenting a bias but I feel the keys to healthy soil and crops lays somewhere between the polar views of the chemists and biologists. Cultivating a healthy microbial population is undoubtedly vital for healthy agricultural systems. However, just like with humans, just providing habitat (residue and soil structure) is not enough to let populations flourish. Microbes also need access to a balanced diet (nutrients) and sometimes this means hauling them in if our soils are deficient.
